Tunic

Gauge (Tension)
20 sts and 26 rows = 4ins(10cms) over stocking stitch with size 7(4.5mm) needles. If you obtain more sts per 4ins(10cms) than specified, use larger needles, if less use smaller needles.

Back
With size 7(4.5mm) needles, cast on 102(106:112:116:120) sts and work 9 rows gst. To establish loop st patt and gst panels at each side:

Patt:
1st row: k
2nd row: k6, p to last 6 sts, k6
3rd row: (patt row) k6, k0(2:2:1:0) * loop 2, k4* rep from * to * to last 6(8:8:7:6) sts, k to end.
4th row: as 2nd row
5th row: k
6th row: as 2nd row
7th row: (patt row) k6(8:8:7:6), * k3, loop 2, k1* rep from * to * to last 6(8:8:7:6) sts, k to end
8th row: as 2nd row
These 8 rows form the patt.
Cont in this way until work meas 6ins (15cms) from beg, fin with ws row.
Next 2 rows: bind off(cast off) 3 sts at beg of each row. 96(100:106:110:114)sts.
Work rem 3 gsts into loop patt.
Keeping loop st pattern correct, cont until work meas 18(18.5:19:19:19.5) ins (46(47:48:49: 50)cms) from beg. Mark armhole position.
Cont until work meas 25(25.5:26:27:27.5) ins (64(65:67:69:70)cms) from beg, fin with p row.

Yoke Patt:
1st row: (rs) p
2nd row: (ws) p
3rd row: k
4th row: k
5th row: k
6th row: p
Rep these 6 rows until work meas 29(29.5:30:31:31.5)ins (74(75:77:79:80)cms)
Bind off(cast off) 33(34:36:38:39) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Place rem 30(32:34:34:36) sts on holder for back neck.

Front
Work same as for back, but place 4 buttonholes evenly up gst panels at lower sides, as foll:
Band: Work 3 rows gst.
Next row: (buttonhole row) k2, bind off(cast off) next 2sts, k to last 4 sts, bind off(cast off) next 2sts, k2.
Next row: k2, cast on 2 sts over bound off(cast off) 2 sts of previous row, k to bound off(cast off) sts of previous row, cast on 2 sts, k2.
Place 3 more buttonholes evenly up gst side panels, with the last one about 1in(2.5cms) from top of panel. Cont as back until work meas 25(25.5:26:27:27.5) ins (64(65:67:69:70)cms) from beg. Follow yoke patt while shaping front neck. Work 40(42:44:46:48 sts, slip next 16(16:18:18:18) sts on holder for front neck. Work rem 40(42:44:46:48) sts. Work on right side of neck, dec 1 st at neck edge of next 7(8:8:8:9) rows. Cont on rem 33(34:36:38:39)sts until front meas 29(29.5:30:31:31.5)ins (74(75:77:79:80)cms).
Bind off(cast off) loosely.
Work left side front to match right, rev shapings.

Sleeves
With size 3(3.25mm) needles, cast on 38(38:40:40:40) sts. Work 9 rows gst, inc 9 sts evenly across last row 47(47:49:49:49) sts.
Change to size 7(4.5mm) needles and work in 8 row loop st patt as for back and front, inc 1 st at each end of every foll 4th row until there are 98(100:102:104:106) sts. Cont until sleeve meas (17.5(17.5:18:18.5:18.5)ins (45(45: 46: 47: 47)cms). Bind off(cast off) loosely.

Roll Neck
Join left shoulder seam.
With size 7(4.5mm) needles, with rs facing, pick up and k 30(32:34:34:36)sts from back neck holder, 19(22:22:24:24) sts from left front neck edge, 16(16:18:18:18) sts from front neck holder, and 19(22:22:24:24) sts from right front neck edge. 84(92:96:100:102) sts in all. Work 2 rows gst, then work in st st for 2.5(2.5:2.5:3:3)ins (7(7:7:8:8)cms). Bind off(cast off) fairly loosely.

Finishing
Join right shoulder seam and neckband.
Sew sleeves to armholes, centring sleeve on shoulder seam. Join side and sleeve seams.
Lap lower front side gst panels over back and stitch neatly.
Sew 4 buttons to each side on back, to match buttonholes on front.
Press garment lightly on ws.
