Back
With size 7(4.5mm) needles, cast on 100(105:110:115:120:125) sts and work the 32 rows of the pattern. The patt is a multiple of 6 sts, given between * *, so work extra sts at ends of rows as given, in stst, (or work them into the pattern by taking the required no. of stitches from the opposite side of the repeat) Work 2(2:1:1:0:3) extra sts at beg and 2(1:1:0:0:2) sts at end of even no. rows. Rev these nos. for odd no. rows.

Bind off (cast off) next 33(35:37:39:41:43) sts for right shoulder, sl next 34(35:36:37:38:39) sts onto st holder or spare needle for back neck, bind off (cast off) rem 33(35:37:39:41:43) sts for left shoulder.

Right Front
With size 7(4.5mm) needles, cast on 48(50:53:55:58:60) sts, and patt as for back, with 0(1:3:1:2:0) extra sts at beg and 0(1:2:0:2:0) extra sts at end of even no. rows, rev for odd no. rows. Cont in stst as for back, marking armholes to match back, until work meas 19(20:20:21:21:21.5) ins 48(51:51:53:53:55) cms from beg, fin at centre front. Shape front neck: Bind off (cast off) 5 sts at centre front, work to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 10(10:11:11:12:12) rows. Cont without shaping to match back length, fin with ws row. Bind off (cast off) rem 33(35:37:39:41:43) sts for shoulder.

Left Front
As right front, rev shaping.

Sleeves
With size 7 (4.5mm) needles, cast on 45( 45:48:48:50:53) sts, and work patt as for back, with 2(2:0:0:1:3) extra sts at beg and 1(1:0:0:1:2) extra sts at end of even no. rows, rev for odd no. rows. Cont in stst as for back, inc 1 st each end of next row, and foll alt 4th and 5th rows until there are 81(83:86:86:90:93) sts in all. Cont without shaping until sleeve meas 17(17.5:18:18.5:18.5:19)ins, 43(44:46:47:47:48) cms from beg, fin with ws row. Bind off (cast off). Join shoulder seams.

Collar
With rs facing, and using size 7 (4.5mm) needles, pick up and k 23(24:24:25:26:27) sts from right front neck, k the 34(35:36:37:38:39) sts from back neck holder, then pick up and k 23(24:24:25:26:27) sts from left front neck. 80(83:84:87:90:93) sts in all. Work patt as for back, with 1(3:0:2:0:2) extra sts at beg and 1(2:0:1:0:1) extra sts at end of even no. rows, rev for odd no. rows. When patt band is complete, bind off (cast off).

Front Borders
Right front: With rs facing, and size 6 (4mm) needles, pick up and k 130(136:136:142:142:148) sts evenly across centre front edge. Work in gst.
Buttonholes: On 4th row: k5, * bind off (cast off) next st, k17(18:18:19:19:20) *, rep from * to * 5 more times, bind off(cast off) next st, k10, bind off (cast off) nect st, k rem 5 sts. On next row, cast on 1 st over each bound off (cast off) st. K 8 rows altogether. Bind off (cast off).

Finishing
Sew sleeves to armholes, centring sleeves on shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons to left front border to match buttonholes on right front border.
